It’s a comeback nobody asked for. Scientists say five cases of malaria have been detected in the United States for the first time in 20 years. The cases were confirmed in Florida and Texas and officials say they were not contracted abroad. Now officials are warning the public about this serious mosquito-borne illness. A quick-thinking police officer stopped a car with an unresponsive driver in Florida. The West Melbourne Police Department says a sergeant in a patrol car noticed a vehicle drifting into the intersection when it should have been stopped at a red light. According to authorities, an unresponsive 77-year-old man was behind the wheel. West Melbourne Police said in a statement on Facebook that the officer’s fast response “prevented this minor incident from becoming a bigger one.”

Police in Artesia, New Mexico, released video from interviews with hospital staff members that treated Alexee Trevizo, who allegedly gave birth in a bathroom and put the baby in a trashcan. Investigators say she went to the ER in January for back pain, but tests determined she was pregnant. The staff says Trevizo asked to use the bathroom and spent around 20 minutes in there. When she came out, they said blood was all over the bathroom. Inside Edition Digital’s Mara Montalbano has more.

The former football star who saved his son and niece from drowning is speaking for the first time. Peyton Hillis tells “Good Morning America” he leaped into action when the kids were seized by a rip current in Pensacola, Florida. He says the scariest point was when he swam past his son to save his niece first. After saving both children, Hillis passed out and was airlifted to a hospital. The 37-year-old was on a ventilator in the ICU for ten days with lung and kidney failure.

A 6-year-old girl and her father were shot after a kid's basketball rolled into a North Carolina man's yard. It happened as a bunch of neighborhood kids were playing basketball. The ball then bounced into Robert Louis Singletary's yard. Cops say he became enraged and stormed out of his house with a pistol. Singletary allegedly opened fire until he was out of bullets. The girl's father was badly injured trying to shield her from the gunfire. Inside Edition's Steven Fabian spoke with Dr. Phil about why incidents where a trigger is pulled over such everyday occurrences.

An 18-year-old cheerleader is now fighting for her life after being shot in a Texas parking lot. Payton Washington was with three other cheerleaders after returning home from practice. Fellow cheerleader Heather Roth says she thought she entered her own car but she realized it was the wrong vehicle. A man then approached her car, shooting Washington in the leg and the back. She was airlifted to a hospital where she is in intensive care. Inside Edition's Megan Alexander has more.

The parents of bank shooter Connor Sturgeon are praising the police for taking down their son before he killed more victims. Sturgeon fatally shot five people inside a Louisville, Kentucky, bank. "No words can express our sorrow, anguish, and horror at the unthinkable harm our son Connor inflicted," his parents said in a statement. "We are deeply grateful for the bravery and heroism of the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department." They also said their son was struggling with mental health.

When a 10-foot long python appeared in a Florida backyard, 16-year-old Onya Golightly came to the rescue. The unflappable teen was as cool as a cucumber as she held the large reptile below its head. Her dad, Daniel, helped her put the snake into a bag. Onya believes the snake was someone’s pet, and that the owner may have released it into the wild. She and her dad turned the python over to Florida Fish and Wildlife.

Realtor Scott Stallings was shocked when he received an invitation to play in the Masters golf tournament. The 60-year-old suspected he’d received the coveted invite in error. Sure enough, it was meant for another Scott Stallings, who is 38 years old and, in fact, a professional golfer. Realtor Scott reached out to golfer Scott, and was able to return the invitation. He tells Inside Edition he was rooting for the man who shared his name.
